henrietta giles tate
Henrietta (GILES) TATE, 81, of Chattanooga, died 5 July 2006. She had battled cancer for many years. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Leslie TATE and their daughter Claudia, both of Chattanooga. She is also survived by brothers Roger GILES and H.M. GILES (of Kingston); grandchildren Gary Aaron and Abbey; great-grandchildren Nikolas Aaron and McKamey Leslie; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of cousins.

Both Henrietta and Leslie were Roane County, Tennessee natives. Henrietta was one of eight children born to Henry and Vesta (PASS) GILES of Harriman. Four of Henrietta’s siblings died in infancy or childhood. Her brother William Edwin “Bill Ed” GILES, retired from the Harriman police force, died in 1995. When their mother died in 1945, Henrietta took over raising her young brother Roger.
Henrietta TATE was a founding member of the Regional Art Alliance of Chattanooga and served in its presidency for two and a half years. She was a long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church in Chattanooga, attending since 1958.

Funeral services were held Saturday, 8 Jul 2006, at 11:30 a.m. in the North Chapel with Rev. Mark Gooden officiating. Arrangements were made by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Hwy 153, Chattanooga. Interment in Hamilton Memorial Gardens followed the service.

The family suggested that in lieu of flowers, friends make donations to Adventa Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

benjamin giles and telitha hyden - census data for 1860
